Abundant need requires an abundant response

During this season of giving, Urban Abundance wishes all Clark County residents an abundance of peace, love and happiness.  While most of us celebrate the season with fresh winter produce and other seasonal foods, many in Clark County cannot afford to buy nor do they have access to fruit and vegetables critical to maintaining their health and well-being.

According to the 2008 Clark County Missing Meals Report, 14.7 million more meals are still needed each year in Clark County to ensure that all low income families and individuals have three nutritious meals a day. Recent studies indicate that about 8% of our population is unsure of the source of their next meal.

Abundant need requires an abundant response

In just under two years, Urban Abundance has made a significant impact on our residents’ ability to access locally grown fruits and vegetables.  As national and international food supplies become increasingly tainted and unpredictable, access to fresh, local food is more important than ever.

“Urban Abundance supports the food insecure in Clark County by gleaning fruit trees in urban areas and providing the harvest to neighborhood food pantries. Equally important, this activity adds to the general awareness of hunger, which results in increased support at all levels.”

Bill Coleman, Board of Directors

Clark County Food Bank

Since 2010, Urban Abundance has gleaned nearly 5,500 pounds of fresh fruit through its Harvesting the Urban Orchard program for those in need in Clark County and has increased market access for small-scale  local farmers through the Backyard Bounty Co-op program. Urban Abundance promotes access to locally grown food, encouraging community self-reliance and ensuring the sustainability of a quality, healthy and affordable lifestyle for Clark County residents.

Please give generously to Urban Abundance this season.  Your contribution of $10, $25, $100, $1,000 or a donation of your choice will go a long way to support the important work of creating an urban landscape filled with an abundance of fresh food for all Clark County residents. Every person who donates this winter season will be entered into a drawing to win $50.00 gift certificate to Lapellah restaurant.
